What's New?

New Tunes Today
Brand new music is released on Freegal constantly. Below is a sampling of what is new just today. Did you know that many times digital music is released first? For example the Bessie Soundtrack for the HBO film will not be available in CD format until June and the Leonard Cohen album is not yet out on CD as well.

Snoop Dog-Bush LP
The latest album from R&B star Snoop Dogg is a collaboration with Grammy-Winning artist Pharrell Williams. It features vocal appearances from Stevie Wonder, Charlie Wilson, Kendrick Lamar, T.I. and Gwen Stefani. The L.A. Times writes that the record “proves he is once again, ahead of his time”

Bessie- Music From the HBO Film LP
Often called the “Empress of Blues”, Bessie Smith was an amazingly talented and incredibly controversial figure of her time. Although she died in a car accident at only 43, she “remains a standard against which all singers can set themselves” per the New York Daily News.  In regards to the Soundtrack, The News writes that Queen Latifah has “done her homework” and that her years of experience singing the blues on her own is “evident here”. The soundtrack and music from the blues legend herself are on the Freegal site.

Leonard Cohen-Can’t Forget: A Souvenir of The Grand Tour LP
Perhaps best known for his astounding hit “Hallelujah” that has been covered countless times, Grammy Lifetime Achievement award- winner Leonard Cohen is still recording amazing music. The Guardian calls this new album “musically mischievous blues”.

JD Souther-Tenderness LP
Legendary musician and Songwriting Hall of Famer JD Southerner is well known for the countless hits he wrote for artists such as The Eagles, Bonnie Riatt, The Dixie Chicks and Linda Ronstadt. This new LP is produced by Larry Klein who has worked on many of Joni Mitchell’s records. Billboard calls it “a serene and lush soundscape”

Jordan Bratton- Youth EP
This is the second project of the young R&B singer and it is a collaboration with Chance The Rapper.  About this EP, Stereogum says “Long Island singer Jordan Bratton has that enviable combination of undeniable talent and impeccable style. Bratton sings pop-minded R&B with a youthful edge, so YOUTH is a perfect name for his upcoming EP. …It’s a swaggering blast of gospel-tinged, retro-futuristic pop that proves he’s perfectly capable of holding it down without assistance from a famous rapper.”

Elliphant –Love Me Badder (Single)
Pigeons and Planes writes that this single “sounds like the Swedish singer’s biggest hit yet..(a) free spirited vibe”. As a way to describe her sound, PopJustice comments “this is what we wanted Rihanna to sound like in 2015”

Steve Aoki Neon Future II
Dance DJ and producer extraordinaire Steve Aoki has just released his sequel to Neon Future I. This album features a variety of guest vocals including Linkin Park, Weezers River Cuomo and Snoop Lion. Mr. Aoki tells Spin Magazine “putting these two albums out is by far the biggest feat in my career and it’s going to take you to the future and beyond!” According to IMDB.com the album’s sound “ is more emotion-driven and dives deeper into the concept of futurism. Embracing the idea of various genres coming together, Aoki combines electro bangers with country, pop and rock influences.”
